چکیده

Discr iminat ion between an in terar te r ia l and intraseptal LMCA is important considering their different pathophysiological, surgical and prognostic implications3,4. The interarterial course carries the greatest risk for adverse repercussions among all coronary anomalies; it is linked to the proximal ectopic vessel, which is intussuscepted within the aortic wall media. In contrast, the intraseptal course is considered benign and has been only occasionally correlated with ischemic sequelae; it is linked to muscular compression of the intramyocardial ectopic segment during tachycardia. Computed tomographic coronary angiography may depict anatomic features that are specific to each of these courses, thereby facilitating their differentiation5. Thus, a LMCA with interarterial course is depicted above the pulmonary valve and on coronal images, it is seen en face between the aortic root and pulmonary trunk as an oval structure; the latter is due to the fact that the proximal intussuscepted ectopic segment is hypoplastic and laterally compressed.

Anomalous origin of the left main coronary artery (LMCA) from the right sinus of the Valsalva or the proximal right coronary artery (RCA) is one of the most clinically important anomalies of coronary circulation. We report the case of a patient with chest pain and abnormal thallium myocardial perfusion scan in whom the anomaly was first detected on invasive coronary arteriography. The exact ana...

Different Presentation of Anomalous Origin of the Left Coronary Artery from the Pulmonary Artery in Adults: Case Reports

Anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ALCAPA) is a rare congenital cardiac malformation. We report three cases of ALCAPA who survived to adulthood. The first case was a 51-year-old woman who complained of typical chest pain that was diagnosed with ALCAPA using cardiac catheterization and coronary computed tomographic angiography (CTA). The second case was a 30-...

Visualization of anomalous origin and course of coronary arteries in 748 consecutive symptomatic patients by 64-slice computed tomography angiography

BACKGROUND Coronary artery anomalies (CAAs) are currently undergoing profound changes in understanding potentially pathophysiological mechanisms of disease. Aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of anomalous origin and course of coronary arteries in consecutive symptomatic patients, who underwent cardiac 64-slice multidetector-row computed tomography angiography (MDCTA). METHODS...

Prevalence of congenital coronary artery anomalies and variants in 726 consecutive patients based on 64-slice coronary computed tomography angiography.

BACKGROUND Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is helpful in making a precise noninvasive evaluation of coronary anatomy, allowing concomitant evaluation of other cardiac structures. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of coronary artery variations detected by 64-slice multi detector CT. MATERIALS AND METHODS The results of ECG-gated CCTA in 726 consecutive patie...

Anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery presenting as dilated cardiomyopathy: a case report

INTRODUCTION Anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery is a rare congenital anomaly and one of the causes of myocardial ischemia. The usual clinical course is severe left-sided heart failure and mitral valve insufficiency presenting during the first months of life. CASE PRESENTATION We report the case of a 6-month-old Tunisian girl who presented with dilated cardi...
